Before Your First Appointment
Private Pay vs. Insurance
This practice offers private pay services only. Insurance is not accepted.
Choosing how to pay for counseling is a personal decision. Understanding the differences between private pay and insurance can help you consider your needs, preferences, and budget.
Cost and coverage
With private pay, you are responsible for the full session fee. Using insurance with a participating provider may reduce your costs, depending on your plan’s deductible, copay, and covered services.
Privacy and confidentiality
Private pay means this practice does not submit insurance claims for your sessions. Your information remains subject to professional confidentiality standards and applicable legal exceptions, which are explained in your intake paperwork.
Assessment and diagnosis
Insurance coverage generally depends on a covered service and clinical criteria. Private pay allows you to seek support without relying on insurance approval. Your therapist still assesses your needs and may document a diagnosis when clinically appropriate.
Planning your care
With private pay, you and your therapist work together to determine treatment goals, session frequency, and the approach to care, based on your needs, clinical recommendations, availability, and agreed fees.
Scheduling & Cancellations
Your appointment time is reserved especially for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please contact the office by email, phone, or text at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice and missed appointments are charged the full session fee. A credit or debit card must remain on file for these charges.
Arriving Late
If you arrive late, your session will end at its scheduled time. If you arrive 15 minutes late or later, your appointment will need to be rescheduled.
Before Your First Appointment
Please complete and submit all intake paperwork at least 48 hours before your first appointment. This gives me time to understand your concerns, review any urgent needs or safety concerns, and determine whether my services are a suitable fit for your care.
If your needs would be better served by another provider or level of care, I will discuss appropriate referral options with you. If paperwork is not received by the deadline, your appointment cannot be held and will need to be rescheduled. The cancellation and no-show policy also applies to initial appointments.
Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
If you do not have insurance or are not using insurance, you have the right to receive a written Good Faith Estimate explaining the total expected cost of your health care services.
When you will receive your estimate
-
If you schedule care 3–9 business days in advance, your estimate must be provided within 1 business day after scheduling.
-
If you schedule care 10 or more business days in advance, your estimate must be provided within 3 business days after scheduling.
-
You may request an estimate before scheduling. It must be provided within 3 business days of your request.
If your bill is higher than expected
If a provider or facility bills you at least $400 more than its Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Keep a copy of your estimate for your records.
